Read to Learn is an adult literacy program offering free adult reading classes at locations throughout our community.
In Read to Learn, trained volunteer tutors implement prepared lesson plans for English-speaking adult learners in a one-to-one in-person instructional setting.
Trained volunteer tutors provide one-to-one tutoring to help adult learners with basic reading and writing skills. Learners must have basic English-speaking skills.
Students may attend one location only.
New Tutor Training will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.

The Read to Learn program is made possible by a grant awarded by the IL State Library (ISL), a division of the Office of the Secretary of State, using funds designated for literacy. The program is paid with approximately $26,013 in federal funds. Locations in Elk Grove Township are supported, in part, by funding from the Elk, Grove Township Agency grant. Approximately $3,000 of this program is supported with non-government sources.
